Steel putty is an epoxy-based filler designed to repair and rebuild metal surfaces. It's perfect for fixing cracks, holes, or damaged areas in steel shower frames before glass installation.

It bonds permanently to metal, can be drilled and tapped once cured, and provides a structural repair that won't fail. Most tradies use it when they find frame damage during renovation work or need to modify existing metalwork.

For bathroom and wet area installations, choose a water-resistant wood putty. Standard wood filler will break down when exposed to moisture.

Water-resistant wood putty maintains its bond in humid conditions and won't shrink or crack. It's ideal for filling holes around timber shower surrounds, window frames, or any wooden elements near glass installations.

Glaze adhesive and silicone serve different purposes. Glaze adhesive creates a structural bond and actually holds the glass in place. Silicone is primarily a sealant that prevents water penetration.

For structural glass installations like frameless shower screens or balustrades, you need glaze adhesive. It's specially formulated to bond glass to metal or other surfaces with high strength while remaining flexible enough to handle thermal expansion.

Most professional-grade steel putty products reach handling strength in 60 minutes at room temperature. Full cure takes 24 hours.

You can speed up the process in warmer conditions. Once fully cured, steel putty can be sanded, drilled, tapped, or painted. Always check the specific product instructions, as cure times vary between brands and formulations.

Not all glaze adhesives work with every glass type. Toughened glass, laminated glass, and standard float glass have different surface properties that affect adhesive performance.

Always check the adhesive specifications against your glass type. Some adhesives are universal, while others are formulated for specific applications like UV-exposed outdoor installations or high-load balustrade systems.
