Measuring tools

Metal rulers typically refer to aluminium or steel rulers. They're lightweight and suitable for general measuring tasks.

Stainless steel rulers offer superior corrosion resistance. This makes them ideal for wet areas like pool installations and bathroom glass work. They maintain accuracy longer and resist rust in humid conditions.

For shower screens and small panels, a 600mm to 1000mm metal ruler works well. It's easy to handle and gives accurate readings.

For larger commercial installations, you'll want a 2000mm ruler or a quality measuring tape. Measuring tapes are better for curved measurements or when you need to mark dimensions across longer spans.

Look for a measuring tape with clear, easy-to-read markings in both metric and imperial if needed. A reliable blade lock is essential.

Choose tapes with reinforced housing that can handle drops. Nylon-coated blades resist wear. A belt clip adds convenience on site.

Store rulers flat or hanging to prevent bending. Wipe them clean after each job to remove glass dust and adhesive residue.

Check the zero point regularly against a known standard. Replace rulers if the markings become worn or if the ruler is bent. Stainless steel rulers require minimal maintenance but benefit from occasional cleaning with soapy water.

Rigid metal rulers work best for straight measurements. For curved surfaces or irregular shapes, use a flexible measuring tape.

Some installers use flexible curve rulers for specialized applications. Measuring tapes conform to curves while maintaining measurement accuracy, making them ideal for custom shower enclosures and curved glass features.
