When you're installing glass pool fencing, choosing the right spigot mounting method can make or break your project. Base mounted spigots (sometimes called base plate spigots) sit on top of your surface rather than being drilled into it. This makes them perfect for concrete, pavers, decking, or any surface where drilling isn't practical or permitted.
Unlike core drilled spigots that require precise drilling into concrete, base mounted spigots simply bolt down to the surface. This means faster installation times and less specialised equipment needed on site. You'll also avoid the risk of hitting rebar or damaging existing surfaces during installation.
Understanding Your Mounting Options
There are three main ways to mount pool fence spigots: base mounted, core drilled, and face mounted. Each has its place depending on your project requirements.
Base mounted spigots sit flat on your surface and are secured with anchor bolts. They're the go-to choice when you can't drill into the substrate or need to preserve the surface underneath. They work brilliantly on timber decking, tiled areas, or rented properties where permanent modifications aren't allowed.
Core drilled spigots require a hole to be drilled into the surface. The spigot sits flush with the ground, creating a sleek, minimalist look. While they offer excellent stability, they're not always practical due to underground services, rebar, or substrate limitations.
Face mounted spigots attach to vertical surfaces like retaining walls or building facades. These are less common for pool fencing but useful in specific situations.
Key Advantages of Base Mounted Spigots
Base mounted spigots give you flexibility without compromising on strength. They meet Australian pool fencing standards while offering easier installation and the ability to work on surfaces where drilling isn't possible. They're also removable if you need to relocate or modify your fencing in the future.
